Cannabis-Infused Herb Butter Crostini: the summer recipe that respects your brain cells
Let’s talk about the classic infused edible moment. Someone hands you a brownie at a party and says, “it’s not that strong, just have one.” Three hours later you’re on the couch explaining your life philosophy to a houseplant.
We’ve all been there. And we’re all tired of it.
The problem isn’t edibles. The problem is vague, eyeballed, vibes-based dosing. A drizzle here, a spoonful there, and suddenly nobody knows what’s in the guacamole. This summer, we’re fixing that with a bruschetta situation so precise, so controlled, and so genuinely delicious that you can actually enjoy your backyard party instead of narrating it to the patio furniture.
Cannabis-Infused Herb Butter Crostini. Each piece gets exactly measured cannabutter. You know what dose you’re getting. Your guests know what they’re getting. Everyone goes home a hero.
The Recipe
What You’ll Need
For the Cannabutter Base
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 3 grams of decarboxylated cannabis (or use a store-bought cannabutter if you’re keeping it simple, more on that below)
- Cheesecloth and a fine-mesh strainer
For the Crostini
- 1 French baguette, sliced into ½-inch rounds (about 24 to 30 slices)
- 3 tablespoons regular (non-infused) butter, melted, for toasting
- Salt and pepper
For the Toppings
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved or quartered
- ½ cup fresh basil leaves, torn or chiffonade
- 2 oz fresh ricotta or burrata (optional, but highly recommended)
- Balsamic glaze for drizzling
- Flaky sea salt to finish
Instructions
Step 1: Make Your Cannabutter
Decarboxylate your cannabis first. Spread it on a baking sheet and bake at 245°F for 30 to 40 minutes. This activates the THC. Don’t skip this step. Seriously.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the decarbed cannabis.
Simmer on very low heat for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Do not let it boil.
Strain through cheesecloth into a container. Squeeze out every drop. That’s your gold right there.
Refrigerate until solid.
Pro shortcut: If you pick up a pre-made cannabutter or cannabis-infused oil from your nearest Trees Dispensary, you can skip straight to Step 2.
Step 2: Toast the Crostini
Preheat your oven to 400°F.
Brush baguette slices with the regular melted butter. Do not use the cannabutter here. That comes later, measured.
Arrange on a baking sheet and bake 8 to 10 minutes until golden and crisp.
Let them cool completely before adding any toppings.
Step 3: Do the Dosing Math
This is the part that makes this recipe different from every other “just put some cannabutter on it” situation. Here’s how to figure out your dose per crostini.
Example using homemade cannabutter
Let’s say you used 3 grams of cannabis flower with 20% THC:
- 3,000 mg of flower × 20% THC = 600 mg THC total
- After decarboxylation and cooking, expect roughly 60 to 75% retention, so approximately 360 to 450 mg in your batch
- With 1 cup of butter = 48 teaspoons of cannabutter
- That’s roughly 7 to 9 mg per teaspoon
- If you spread ½ teaspoon of cannabutter per crostini, each piece equals approximately 3.5 to 4.5 mg THC.
Example using a labeled dispensary product
If your cannabutter package says 10 mg THC per teaspoon:
- ½ tsp per crostini = 5 mg per piece
- 1 tsp per crostini = 10 mg per piece
Measure it. Every single time. Use a ½ teaspoon measure. Do not use your finger, a vibe, or a little dollop. Use a measuring spoon. You are a responsible adult who has earned the right to a pleasant evening.
Step 4: Assemble
Spread your precisely measured cannabutter on each cooled crostini. A half teaspoon per piece is a solid starting point.
Add a small spoonful of ricotta or a torn piece of burrata if using.
Top with cherry tomatoes and torn basil.
Drizzle with balsamic glaze.
Finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt.
Label them if serving guests. Seriously. Make a little sign. Be a good host.
Important: Onset Time Reminder
Because this is an ingested product, the effects are very different from smoking. Expect onset anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your metabolism, what you’ve eaten that day, and the universe’s general mood.
Start with 1 to 2 pieces. Wait at least 90 minutes before having another. Remind your 21+ guests of the same. Pair with plenty of water and actual non-infused snacks so nobody’s running on an empty stomach and confused about why they feel the way they feel.
This isn’t a race. The whole point is that you know exactly what you’re consuming, so let it do its thing before adding more.
